Short Stories

''Rain'' (Paramourtal) August 2010
After losing his beloved wife to another man, author Kyle Waite drives to a mountain cabin to escape the world. Teetering on a suicidal brink of despair, he is saved by a beautiful woman he meets in the forest. Only, there is something strange and wonderful about her. She only appears when it rains.
My very first paranormal romance story will appear in the upcoming anthology, Paramourtal, from Cliffhanger Books. I'm also co-editing the book with Evelyn Welle. Keep checking the Cliffhanger website for more information and an exact release date.
''Cure'' (Hint Fiction) Fall 2010 This was an interesting -- and fun -- project. This November, W.W. Norton and Company will publish a collection of 100 to 150 examples of "hint fiction." They are stories told in 25 words or less that suggest a larger, more complex story.
My hint-fic, "Cure", will be included. Besides my work, it will also include selections from such best-selling and award-winning authors as Joyce Carol Oates, Ha Jin and Peter Straub. I am honored to be walking with such literary masters.
You can pre-order the book now on Amazon.
''IT!'' (365Tomorrows.com) Dec. 3, 2009
Captain Kurt Avenel has a problem. A hostile alien creature has invaded his spaceship. The rest of his crew managed to escape. But now -- it's after him!
"I really enjoyed (IT!)...That is how the smoke and mirrors of our trade should be used, and it was done so well!" -- Matthew Forish (365tomorrows forum)
Read the story -- along with stories by other great writers -- on 365Tomorrows.com. It's a terrific site that hearkens back to the days of the thrilling sci-fi adventures written in the Thirties, Forties and Fifties. It specializes in flash fiction. Or, as they explain, ''fiction with its teeth bared and its claws extended, lithe and muscular with no extra fat.''
''Demon'' (Star Trek Strange New Worlds 8) August 2005
An action-packed adventure with Capt. James T. Kirk and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise battling a Klingon cruiser and hostile alien entity.
"One of the great "what-ifs" in Star Trek...with one great big twist at the end. A good story..."
--D. Fisher (amazon.com)

''Seven & Seven'' (Star Trek Strange New Worlds VI ) July 2003
Seven of Nine (from Star Trek: Voyager) and Gary Seven (from the original series) race to stop a giant asteroid from destroying an alien planet.
"This is probably the best of the series...'Seven and Seven' deserves specific mention for a great concept..." -- R. Spottiswood "ras1310"
